When’s the last time you had a new professional photograph made? For me it had been a few years. I’m now about 20 pounds lighter and, dare we say, a couple years older than the last time my photograph was made. (I love to joke that the older I get the blonder I get!) Friends who attended the National Association of Realtors Conference in California last fall told me they were encouraged to get a new photo made every two years and that’s good advice for people in the public eye. With that in mind I went on DayTime Tri-Cities to speak with host Amy Lynn about the importance of a good head shot in building your personal brand and I even compared it to that “gray silhouette” that we’ve all seen on LinkedIn. After all, your face is the first thing people see on so many social media channels. With a majority of American saying they’re planning to look for new jobs this year, a good, true likeness of yourself is important (not a selfie!) I also talked about the new issue of Out ‘N About Magazine, for which I write a monthly column. Let me know your thoughts on this segment. (Just click on the DayTime link above to view after a brief ad.) I’d love to hear about your experiences with professional photographs in building your personal brand. (Shout out her to photographer Tina Wilson who once again took my new photo!) I look forward to hearing from you.

I confess that I hate getting new headshots done. You have inspired me, LOL! Thanks, Mel.
Haha Sue! I think we all dislike it a bit but it’s something we need to do to stay current.
Hmmm … I haven’t had new head shots done in several years, and this is a great reminder that I need to have them done again!
I also need to schedule them for our whole team so our head shots on the website are consistent in look.
Jennifer what a great idea to go through and get the whole team re-shot with good, new photos for the new year! Glad to help you.
Headshots are such an important investment to make for your business! Thanks for the reminder!
Glad you enjoyed the reminder Yvonne!
Nothing like starting the New Year off with a New Head shot! “The older I get, the blonder I get.” haha I love it!
Haha you know me well Sarah! I know you like to keep an updated look too.
It’s on my list to do this quarter! Mine is from 2010 and was taken by my lovely husband just before my book was published.
It really is time for a new one so thanks for the reminder!
Now that’s handy Trudy!
I guess I should be happy that I still look exactly like my professional headshots… I won’t tell you how old they are. It keeps my branding recognizable. Of course it’s meant keeping my hair the same style and color. That said I do get additional professional shots taken for marketing purposes. It also helps to be in an industry where many of my clients are photographers 🙂
Jessica, you’re so blessed to never change! I remember your shots from 20 years ago look like you today!
I am excited to be working on a new headshot with my amazingly talented photographer. For me I do scene shots (with food) rather than just a corporate type shot but that’s because it’s applicable to my business and helps me brand a little better.
That makes a lot of sense for what you do Mira.
Headshots are such an important piece of branding. What a great reminder to update and stay current.
Write on!~

Thanks and glad to help Lisa.
You are so right on! Unless one plans to run a business and live in a cave
you really need to look something close to your online photo. The choices
are keep up with a new photo done by a pro or have a mask to put on when you are in public.
Mitch, well said. I think you do indeed need to bear a resemblance to your photo. Thank you.
Current professional photos are so important to your brand. I usually have new headshots taken about once it a year. I love my photographer–she’s awesome. Having a great photographer really enhances your brand and brings out your personality so people really feel like they know you. That’s another reason why you need to keep them current.
