(Johnson City, Tenn.) MarketingMel, a public relations firm for business professionals, recently celebrated one year in business. Founded by President and CEO Mary Ellen Miller, the firm works with business professionals to create their personal brands. “Social networking has been a great differentiator for me in getting out ahead of the pack in that space and advising my business clients to do the same,” says Miller. “Facebook, LinkedIn and twitter, among others, provide a tremendous opportunity for creating and expanding upon both a personal and business brand.”
Miller thanks her “fantastic professional clients who have helped me to grow the business” over the past year.
Miller is regularly asked to speak about social networking for business. She recently addressed 100 REALTORS® at the Bristol TN/VA Association of REALTORS® annual awards meeting. She spoke to the Strategic Marketing Group of Kingsport where she was invited back to conduct a workshop on growing business through social networking strategies later this month.
Since founding MarketingMel she has been featured on WJHL-TV and WJCW Radio and in the Johnson City Press Her Magazine. Miller, a former television news anchor for WJHL, has worked in corporate and agency public relations, university development, magazine editing, and interactive agency and legal marketing. She is on the board of the Tri-Cities Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Miller holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from ETSU. Miller blogs regularly and her thoughts about social networking for business, public relations and life in the Tri-Cities.

Wow! The past year has really gone fast. Hasn’t it?
So, tell us, what were some of the highlights in your first year?
Thanks JR and yes, the year has gone fast. Let’s see…highlights. First, naming the company-sitting at Panera Bread with Tim Story as he was registering the domain name on his laptop. He looked up and asked what my company name was and I decided to name it my twitter handle (why fight with Google?) Next up would be getting my first long term client (I just met with him again today over a year later!) followed by opening a MarketingMel bank account and purchasing a laptop. (I wanted to have clients before I made any expenditures.) It’s been a great year and I’ve been way busier than I ever dreamed. Feel very blessed to have great clients. Thanks for your friendship and interest JR.
